Host families are carefully vetted to ensure safety. Students immerse in American culture, participate in family activities, practice English, and learn about customs and traditions.
The homestay environment provides ample opportunities for students to practice English and receive academic support from their host families. This helps improve language proficiency and enhances academic performance.
Host families provide daily meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as transportation to and from school. This ensures students' basic needs are met, allowing them to focus on their studies.
The program offers 24/7 support for both students and host families. Monthly check-ins are conducted to monitor the student’s well-being and progress, with regular reports sent to parents.
Our process begins with a thorough telephone interview, where we get to know potential host families. We discuss their motivations, family dynamics, and their understanding of the responsibilities involved in hosting an international student.
Next, we conduct a home visit to ensure that the living conditions meet our high standards. This visit allows us to evaluate the safety, comfort, and suitability of the environment where the student will live.
We conduct comprehensive background checks on all adult members of the household. This step ensures that the family has a clean record and can provide a safe space for the student.
We speak with references provided by the family to gain additional insights into their character, reliability, and previous experience in hosting, if applicable. This helps us build a complete picture of the family.
Once all checks are complete and the family is deemed suitable, they sign a contract with IEM, agreeing to adhere to our guidelines and uphold the standards we expect for our students.
Before welcoming a student, host families attend an orientation session. This training covers essential topics, including cultural sensitivity, communication, and the specific needs of international students.
The moment arrives when the host family welcomes the student into their home. We ensure that the family is prepared and excited to integrate the student into their daily lives, providing a warm and supportive environment.
Our support doesn’t end once the student moves in. We conduct regular check-ins with both the host family and the student to ensure everything is going smoothly and to address any concerns that may arise.
